A History of Accomplishment!
Among his many accomplishments as a school board member, Rudy established strong partnerships with business and government officials to bring innovative ideas to our school district, such as:
- Bring Auto-Tech class to Workman High School in partnership with Rio Hondo College.
- Partner with previous L.A. County Supervisor 4th District Don Knabe, to create the Hacienda Heights Community Center, build Los Altos H.S. a new swimming pool area, refurbish the Wilson HS swimming pool and create a new park at the Orange Grove M.S. site.
Rudy also monitored the modernization of our schools to make sure tax payers’ dollars were well spent and students got what they needed. He also insisted in the creation of the 7/11 committee to make recommendations on the future of various school sites during a period of declining enrollment.
One of his most outstanding accomplishments has been his ability to maintain an open communication with district staff, parents and students; he achieved this by being visible at school events and available to everyone.
Giving Back to His Community
Rudy’s dedication to the school district did not stop after he left the school board, and in 2013 he started the Rudy Chavarria Scholarship Foundation which gives scholarships to high school seniors in the Hacienda La Puente School District. The foundation has given to date $1,000 scholarships to 53 students. Quite an accomplishment!
The Foundation has also served as the vehicle for Rudy to learn more in depth the needs of the students and their families, and it was this new awareness that motivated him to run again for school board in the November 6th election.
